August 1

Woo hoo! We're home. It's really 4:45 pm CT on Thursday,
August 1. But it still feels like it's about 3:00 am somewhere,
especially in our heads.
We spent our last afternoon having high tea with dim sum
in the White Swan Hotel. Wow. Very good food. We left Guangzhou
somewhat on time, if in a frantic rush. Again the concept
of queueing up is not the same there as it is in the US. We
didn't sleep as well on this flight as we had a hyper baby
in our laps, but we did sleep a little. The flight was a few
hours shorter, so that helped too. Amy became an American
citizen when we touched down on US soil and the rest of the
new parents - all relieved to have this last paperwork step
behind us - had a good round of applause (I wonder if the
non-adoptive parents on board thought we were applauding that
we landed safely...)
We arrived in LA around 8 pm, got to our hotel, ordered an
honest-to-God cheeseburger (compared to the steamed one we
had in Guilin) and crashed. We got up a bit early and left
for our 8 am flight home. We arrived in one piece to the greetings
of Mark's family and my co-worker Lissa. Amy just awoke from
a nap as we landed and was exhausted, as were Mark and I,
but we were all ecstatic to be home.
Amy has had her first car seat ride and her first oatmeal
in her high chair. She sunk in them both, as she's so petite.
She's had her first 20 minute nap in her crib - and we used
the monitor to hear her scream bloody murder when she woke
up. We've played with some toys and now she's sitting at the
keyboard with me.
Amy also has a propensity of filling her diapers on the plane,
much to the dismay of anyone sitting close to us.
The house is in disrepair, but the restoration work is starting
on Saturday. We're trying to clean up as much as we can so
we can get the animals back and have our first night in our
home with the entire family.
I'll be posting our trip pictures to the website soon, after
the final ones are developed and scanned. Thanks for joining
us in this journey. We'll continue to keep you updated in
the adventures of Amy (although probably not daily anymore...!)
