waiting to get on the planeexcited to be on the planeWe got up at 4am to leave the house at 4:45am. Amy and I both did the "We're Going to China" dance.

We got to Newark and boarded the plane. We were just pulling out when a crazy, belligerent passenger had to be pulled off the plane, delaying us a bit to get her off and get her luggage. We flew on a Boeing 777, with a screen in every seat back. Amy and I both watched A Little Princess and cried when Sara was being taken from her dad (although she wouldn't admit to being sad - only blaming the tears on exhaustion). Amy slept some on the plane, but not nearly enough.

When we got to Beijing, it was around 2:15 on Sunday afternoon. We waited in the airport for another family to arrive and then we headed to dinner. It was a large tourist/banquet hall. The hostesses were dressed to look like women from the Qing Dynasty, with their "hair" wrapped on boards. The large lazy Susan filled with pork, fish, apples, hot and sour soup, and watermelon. We were adventurous and tried almost everything.

We finally got to the Courtyard by Marriott in Beijing center. It's connected to a large shopping mall, which Amy and Mark looked around in while I unpacked. The Easter Bunny visited while they were gone.

We all crashed by 9pm. I woke up later, looked at my watch, and saw is was close to 4am - a time that we could manage getting up. Mark heard me and woke up, shaved and turned on the lights. We had no luck trying to wake up Amy - and then we looked at the *real* clock. It was only midnight. Luckily, we could go back to sleep...
