After breakfast, we checked out and left Guilin for the Li
River cruise to Yangshou. We had done this cruise about
5 years ago and it was exactly the same. The view was gorgeous
- we saw water buffalo, cormorants and ducks (like The
Story about Ping), as well as the amazing countryside.
Amy liked the caves. We were served lunch and were offered
a drink of the famous snake wine (we declined). Amy got tired
during dinner, climbed on my lap and slept. Luckily, it rained
during this time, so we couldn't be out on the deck anyway.
This time, we visited Yangshuo and Western
Street. Whoa. Tourist trap. We didn't leave or shop much
because it was raining off and on. We ate banana pancakes
at a restaurant and waited to leave. We did get some artwork,
cheap chops
and laundry done there.
We took a bumpy short cut for about 2 hours to the Guilin
airport. Here we said goodbye to Xixi and Michaela and flew
back to Beijing.
We flew back to Beijing on a 9pm flight, arriving at midnight.
Amy was so tired - so utterly exhausted that she became nauseous.
She then started crying and just wanted to be home. We finally
calmed her down and convinced her to close her eyes. Once
she did, she was fast asleep for the whole flight. She crashed
in the hotel when we got to Beijing and slept later than both
of us the next day.
